My address

There are quite a few Van Beek's (and Verbeek's) at our department, two of whom also happen to have the first name Bert. Therefore, if you want to be sure that the mail is properly delivered, it helps if you use my D.A. initials instead of Bert or B.

How to reach me: pdf map of university Dutch, English

How to reach the Eindhoven University

By air

  • Via Eindhoven airport, where direct flights to the following destinations are available.
    • At the Eindhoven airport you can take bus 401 to the Eindhoven railway station. The Eindhoven railway station is the final station of this ride. The bus ride takes 22 minutes. The fare is approximatly 2 euro. The buses go from approximately 6.30 to 24.00 hours. From 6.30 - 19.30 every 15 minutes, and from 19.30 hours to 24.00 hours every 30 minutes. On Sundays the busses go every half hour from 9.00 to 24.00 hours. This data is taken from (November 2008). Unfortunately, the site is in Dutch only.
    • At the Eindhoven airport you can also take a taxi directly to the University (one way fare approximately 20 euro).
  • Via Amsterdam airport Schiphol. From Schiphol airport, there are direct trains to the Eindhoven railway station, see, which is also in English. The train ride takes 1 1/2 hours. When using this planner go “From station Schiphol” to “station Eindhoven”. The railway station Schiphol is in the airport.
  • Via Dusseldorf International Airport. This airport is located at a bit over 100km from the Eindhoven university. Train connections are not so good (approximately 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours, with 2 or 3 changes of trains), see in English.

By train

Destination railway station is Eindhoven.

  • See NS highspeed for fast international connections from all major european countries to the Netherlands.
  • See (click English to get the international version) for the Dutch railway planner.
  • is very useful, and available in just about any language you may wish.

Google map

I have created a Google map that shows the main TU/e buildings, and the walking path from the railway station to the university.

To find hotels in the neighborhood of the university go to and enter as destination: “Station Eindhoven” (or “landmark:Station Eindhoven”, without the quotes). Sort the list by “distance”. This will give you the hotels closest to the station. The Holiday Inn hotel is not closest to the station, but it is closest to the university, since it is situated at the north side of the station, whereas the other hotels are at the south of the station. The university is also at the north of the station. Some info on the hotels in order of proximity to the university:

  • Holiday Inn: 4 star, closest to the university, very good breakfast, easy to park your car at the hotel. The address of the hotel is “Veldmaarschalk Montgomerylaan 1, Eindhoven”. However, in the Google map you should use “Pastoor Petersstraat 55, Eindhoven” instead.
  • Eden Crown Hotel: 4 star.
  • Crown Inn: 3 star, situated at Markt 35.
  • Queen Hotel Café Restaurant: 3 star, free internet access, provisions to make coffee in your room, situated at Markt 7.

Markt is the most central part of Eindhoven with lots of terraces to sit, relax and have a drink. The centre of Eindhoven is a pedestrian area, no cars are allowed.

There are also two budget hotels:

Both hotels are situated at the Wilhelminaplein. A very nice place with bars and hotels, not so close to the university as “Markt”, but still within walking distance, and also both on

To show these hotels in the Google map, type hotel in the “Search maps” box. This will show several hotels on the map, including ones that I mentioned.

Unfortunately, the university does not arrange any discounts for hotels.

Walking in Eindhoven between hotel, station, university

In the Google map find the following locations as follows (without the quotes):

  • Eindhoven university: “Technische Universiteit Eindhoven”
  • Eindhoven university, entrance of main building: “Stevinplein, Eindhoven” or “Simon Stevinplein, Eindhoven, Netherlands”
  • Railway station northern exit (to university and to Holiday Inn hotel): “Station, Eindhoven” or “Station, Eindhoven, Netherlands”
  • Railway station southern exit (to other hotels): “Stationsplein 1, Eindhoven” or “Stationsplein 1, Eindhoven, Netherlands”

For walking directions, use the normal Google “Get directions”. Initially, you can only select “By car”. After the directions have been generated, you can choose “Walking” instead of “By car”. However, the results are not perfect:

  • The route from the railway station (northern exit) to the university as calculated by Google maps is not the optimal route. For the optimal route see this pdf file.
  • Also, the route shown by Google maps from any of the hotels south of the station to the university is not optimal. You should divide the route into three segments:
    1. From the hotel to the southern exit of the railway station
    2. Inside of the station continue straight on to the northern exit
    3. Continue the route from the northern exit of the station to the university
  • Finally, the route from the railway station to the Holiday Inn hotel as calculated by Google maps (Walking) is not correct. You should walk next to the bicycle lanes (ground/tunnel level of “Fellenoord, Eindhoven”), through the tunnels, and via the “Kruisstraattunnel, Eindhoven”. You can clearly see the Holiday Inn sign from the northern exit of the railway station (high up ahead of you to the left).

Multiform meeting 21,22 January in Eindhoven

See the Google map for the “Zwarte Doos” and the main entrance to the TU/e.

Location: Zwarte Doos, Room 1.04.

Dinner Wednesday evening in the University club in the main building. The university club is reached as follows: From the main entrance (revolving door) of the main building, you take the wooden stairs up to the first floor. You then continue straight on. After crossing an intersection, the university club is the first opportunity to your left (entry via glass doors).

Obsolete: Info of previous meetings.
